Planning for a family vacation can be stressful when you aren’t sure how to save or whether you can afford to go. But there are actually many ways to save up money that fit within most budgets.
5 Simple Ways to Save for Family Vacation
Planning ahead and saving throughout the year will make saving for family vacations much more manageable. And going on a debt free vacation will make it so much more enjoyable.
Here are five simple ways you can start saving for a fun family vacation right away!
Save All of Your Spare Change
This is one of the simplest ways to save for family vacation. Each time you spend money on anything, save all of the spare coin change. When you get home, throw this change in a jar. If you also put smaller bills in there, such as one-dollar bills, the money will add up even faster. Some find that they need a larger container. If so, then you can purchase an empty 5-gallon water jug that is meant for dispensing from a distilled water machine. These work great for storing change in.
Cut Dining Out in Half or Completely
Many families eat out entirely too much, be it fast food or more fancy venues. Another easy way to save for family vacation is to cut out at least half of your dining. Save the money you would have spent eating out to go toward family vacation. If you can cut out all of the dining out, this will help save even more money. If your family doesn’t eat out but buys expensive snacks or beverages on the go (such as coffee, snack stand food, smoothies, fancy teas, or drinks from the convenience store), that is another that can be cut out and saved.
Put Aside a Specific Amount Each Payday
Each time you get paid from any work, plan for a specific amount that you can afford to put away. Take the money out right away and transfer into your savings account. This method is only effective if you stick to it. It can sometimes be tempting to forego saving from one or two payments if there’s something else you want to do. But if that something isn’t a necessity for living, think twice. The more you save, the more you can do with the kids during family vacation.
Place Local Ads for Unneeded Items
Most people have plenty of items they no longer use. You can sell these items by placing ads with local venues. The newspaper is no longer the only place to do this. Place an ad with venues such as Facebook Marketplace and buy/sell apps for your cell phone. Use this extra money to save for family vacation.
Have the Kids Run a Bake Sale and Craft Stand
This may be one of the oldest ways to raise or save money, but it’s still very effective. The kids can sell lemonade or other beverages, baked goods, and handcrafted items to raise money for family vacation. Save all of the money that is made from this stand. It can be run multiple times. Just be sure to follow any local codes regarding taxes and how many sales you can have at your home each year.
